SEE THE CRAFT UP CLOSE

A closer look at the form, the craft, and the sculpt. Let the details speak for themselves

THE LORE

The Four Seasons

The Four Seasons is a series of four sculptures that come from a subscriber's poll suggestion.

Each diorama is designed as a standalone composition, but they are all tied together:

  • The circular frame they all share represents the cycle:
it starts in spring, evolves in summer/autumn and completes the full cycle in winter.
  • The poses are symmetrical: we have two closed poses, one at the beginning of the cycle and one at the end.
The middle ones are open and free.
  • We have two dynamic and two static poses. Static poses are for winter and summer, the main seasons.
Dynamic poses represent change and are assigned to the intermediate seasons (spring/autumn)
  • Each season is assigned a different culture as a theme.
There's no special reason for it, other than a personal visual preference of mine.
  • Each season has their own symbols, flora and fauna fit in the diorama.
I really liked one of the ideas from the comments to the poll, which suggested a cultural theme to the seasons (you can still see the comment represented in Winter).
However, instead of having one culture for all four of them, we will have one culture per season.

Spring

"Spring" is Asian-themed.

The inspiration comes from the concept of fairies in Asian dance having those long silk clothes which, traditionally, "allow them to fly".

Since swallows and "flight" is the main theme, that was the reason why i picked the fairy symbol.

Spring is the awakening, with cherry blossoms, robins, etc.

Her pose itself mimics the slow awakening from the cold of the winter that came before.

The frame is small : the cycle is just beginning
